Dresden Plate Petals

A customer inherited this vintage quilt when her father died. It had been hand-pieced and hand-quilted by her grandmother.

The quilt is a beautiful Dresden Plate design with rounded, petal pieces rather than pointed ones. The hand quilting was done in a Baptist Fan design. The quilt was most likely made in the 1930’s with fabric from the 1920’s and 1930’s.

The quilt only needed washing and minor repairs. Some petals were torn or had worn out fabric. I had fabric from another quilt of the same era, so I hand sewed “new” fabric over the damaged petals. commissioned to “fix” this quilt whose Dresden plates had petals with torn or worn out fabric. I recovered about 30 Dresden petals. Currently, I am the only person who can tell which petals are new.

Once the quilt was repaired, it was strong enough to be carefully hand washed.

A label documenting the history of the quilt was added to the back.
