The pattern for this quilt is called Nightsky by Nina Dodge of SkyClad Quilts. I was commissioned to make it for a California king-sized bed. I had to improvise to get the quilt the correct size since the original pattern was for a baby quilt, a wall hanging, or a lap quilt. It was harder than I was expecting to handle the massive amounts of fabric needed for this large size. It took some work to keep the stitching lines for the sky section parallel with the stitching lines for the bottom water section, but it turn out beautifully.

I longarmed the quilt with four different edge-to-edge designs/pantographs and used horizontal lines across the sunset. My favorite pantograph was Midnight Sparkle which is in the darker parts of the sky. The Cumulous design is used in the lighter blues and tan and Thistle in the greens. The water area is finished with the Aqua design. Other designs that would have worked on this quilt are Mountain Pines, Still Water with Leaves and Blossoms, and Waves.

The original pattern suggested quilting the whole quilt with horizontal lines, but I believe longarming with an edge-to-edge pattern, even with a single design, improves the look of this quilt.
